My little curious gardener got all down and dirty in his PJs this morning. The final snow of the season has past (we think 😆) and it’s time to prep the garden... again. We may or may not have accidentally frozen our first round about a month ago. Still getting used to this Colorado climate. 🏔 .

If I’m lucky, he will be cooking ME dinner soon. 👨‍🍳 .
This kids imagination is on FIRE lately and I am eating up every minute of it. In his own words, today he “cooked me” eggs and squash casserole, a side of broccoli with yellow soup. And he always gives me coffee for dessert. Kid knows his momma. So thankful for these kids kitchen supplies from curiouschef. Weston can expand his imagination and “cook me dinner” while I ACTUALLY cook him dinner. 😆 Fair exchange... 😆

Had a debate with my almost 3 year old daughter because she wanted to help prepare breakfast earlier and slice the oranges herself. I guess, It's time for an upgrade from her crinkle cutter. She's had lots of practice cutting soft fruits with it. We make sure that she has mastered the basic skills of cutting with tools before letting her use this set (as with anything #Montessori - we start from SIMPLE TO COMPLEX and we only move to the complex after mastery of the simple activity). These kid-safe nylon plastic knives can cut through fruits and veggies easily, but not skin. The tip is also rounded and the handle has a good grip. And of course, they're meant for little hands. Unfortunately, like 60% of our materials - these are not available locally. I'm still on a hunt for more tools - I usually find child-appropriate materials at Landmark or Daiso.
Anyway, I know how to cook but honestly -- I have little interest in cooking or anything kitchen-related but food preparation is something Kara loves to do so we make time for this. These are the curiouschef knives Jaxon was using in my stories. He’s 26 months old. I picked up these knives for Eden about two years ago when she started to become pretty interested in and age-appropriately capable of helping me prepare food. :) I think it’s so important to welcome kids’ interest in preparing food... To let them get messy, make mistakes and figure it out without us projecting stress, criticism onto them as they’re learning. Do you like learning in that environment? I don’t. These seemingly simple things, like learning to use a knife, are profoundly important and so empowering for our little people. They learn how capable they are, even as young as just two years old.💪🏼✨

Both kids helping me prep cooksmarts potato and leek soup that was on a recent menu 😋. I set up prep stations for both of them and chopped the potatoes 🥔 so they were easy enough for them to cube.

It was def one of the denser veggies Neko’s (3.5y) cut and it was Bowie (21m) first time using the curiouschef knives and he did a great job! 👏 Every time he sees me cooking now, he says, “Help you. Help you.” It MELTS my heart into a puddle of mush, and I’m so excited he’s getting in on the action now.

One of the best parts about pureed soups (aside from their deliciousness) is that veggies can be any size going in — we had lots of non-uniform pieces but it doesn’t matter because it all cooks fine and then just get pureed! 👌
