Making Time to Cook with Kids isn't Always Easy, But Worth It
by Ashley Barnhart
Like most busy moms I have a lot on my plate. After a long day it is hard for me to find ways to connect with my children. I am usually so busy cleaning and making dinner that I really struggle finding time to bond with them. I always think "Tomorrow it will be different. Tomorrow I will make time." Guess what? That time usually passes me by. As the holidays are approaching I am starting to see how much I am missing family time.
Lately I have been trying to multi- task. Usually whenever I make dinner my older son pops his head in the kitchen and asks if he can help. My usual response, embarrassingly, is to tell him "Not right now, I'm almost done." How sad is that? Well for the last week I have started to take him up on his offers. I buy myself some time and tell him he has to go wash his hands first. That way I can get all the messy steps out of the way. Then I find things he can do. Anything from pouring the measuring cup to finding an ingredient for me. He really loves it!
Not only are we spending time together, but he is asking questions along the way which means his cute little brain is obtaining new information. Secondly, he is gaining self confidence at a job well done- spills and all! One thing that has really helped encourage me to have my son help me out in the kitchen are the Curious Chef products. I have to say my son's absolute favorite item from Curious Chef is the rolling pin. He loves helping me roll out pizza dough and that in turn encourages him to eat his meals.
I am so happy my little guy is becoming more and more independent in the kitchen and learning skills that will last him throughout his life.

My kids love to help cook
My kids love to help cook too, and I am learning more and more to be patient with them and allow them to help. It's a great way to spend more quality time with them too! =)
